Pre-Anaesthesia Assessment & Optimisation

Assessment before anaesthesia is an integral part of specialist anaesthetic practice and provides an opportunity for you to meet your anaesthetist and discuss the options for your anaesthetic and the risks associated with these options. We endeavour to see most patients prior to any general anaesthetic or major surgery. Previously this would have occurred the night prior to surgery when a patient was admitted to hospital. However, admission to hospital the night prior to surgery is rare now and therefore we endeavour to see you at our rooms in the weeks leading up to your surgery.

Please bring a list of your medications to the consultation. A summary of your medical history from your local general practitioner would also be beneficial.

In some instances it may be difficult to have a face-to-face consultation and an appropriate time for a phone consultation or video-conference will be arranged.
